In 1991, the New Ireland Group hosted The Other Talks. This was another cross-community public meeting, with members of every political party except the DUP: there was Alliance, FF, FG, GP, Labour, SDLP, SF, UUP and WP. The MBC was used with electronic voting, and again, a consensus was found. (Full details are in the conference report.) A guest from Sarajevo was also present, and thus we warned of the dangers of holding a two-option majority vote in Bosnia. The EU (Badinter Commission) ignored this advice; the referendum was duly held; and it started the war.
